Sisters on A Journey: New England at the
2026 Triennial Gathering

Reflections from Des Moines on worship, learning, and Spirit‑filled connection

Greetings to my New England Sisters in Christ!

I’m writing this newsletter article from the Des Moines airport – just hours since our closing worship at the WELCA Triennial Gathering, “I Am Worthy.”  It was an honor to represent our synodical organization to so many other women visiting, worshipping and learning in the heartland of America.  I hope you have seen the posts made on our Facebook page and so many other highlights on the churchwide page; New England Women of the ELCA/Women of the ELCA

Over the past five days, we had many opportunities to build meaningful connections with women of faith and participate in workshops that encouraged growth in our individual faith journeys. A wide range of topics were presented in the plenary sessions, workshops, and exhibits. We learned about Indigenous history, courageous leadership, immigration issues, the transgender experience, and more. A variety of multicultural, diverse women shared their experiences, wisdom, and faith journeys. Our worship experiences were filled with beautiful, lively music. We were blessed to have Presiding Bishop Curry lead us in our closing worship service. The moments of eye-opening information and heart-rending stories were Holy Spirit filled.

We also shared laughter and our own stories through our time together in our hotel rooms and during meals.  You get to know each other as family when you share the bathroom at all hours of the day!  We were practicing our “love one another” when we interacted with staff and strangers in the elevator or eating areas.  Even during the all-inclusive learning sessions(plenary) and worship we recognized the awesome power of over 1100 Lutheran women singing and praising the Lord.

The next Triennial Gathering is in July of 2029 in Louisville, Kentucky.  New England WILL BE going!  You can pre-register now at the LOWEST price for 2029.  Go to the WELCA website: www.womenoftheelca.org to complete your registration.

Don’t forget the next wonderful event is to join your sisters of faith at our Biennial Convention on October 22-24 at Calumet Lutheran Camp & Conference Center. Registration and information will be sent out soon!  Keep watch and keep praying!!

Blessings,
Valerie Holcomb, Lynn Zeltman, Marietta Meyer, Elizabeth (Liz) Burgess & Jeanne Minasian
